About British Airways
The birth of Civil Aviation resulted in British Airways creation following World War I. 25 August 1919 was the first scheduled service and since then British Airways experienced different stages of development in every decade.
The national carrier of the United Kingdom was formed by the merger of two largest UK airlines - British Overseas Airways Corporation and British European Airways. In December1984, the airline launched a new corporate identity developed by Landor AssociatesUnder Chairman Lord King's leadership, the privatization of British Airways was completed in 1987.
In June1997, the airline unveiled its new corporate logo, which featured designs from around the world on its aircraft. Under the slogan "The World's Favourite Airline," British Airways became the world's most profitable airline in the 1990s. It purchased Delta Air Transport, a small German domestic airline, in 1992 and renamed it Deutsche BA. In1994, British Airways purchased a 49.9% stake in TAT European Airlines and a 70% stake in Air Liberté in1997, in an attempt to challenge Air France's supremacy.
British Airways concluded a franchise agreement with GB Airways in1995; the airline had been operating flights to holiday destinations from Gatwick for many years at the time. British Airways Maintenance Cardiff (BAMC) marked its 25th anniversary of looking after the long-haul fleet on August 1st. Over the course of a year, a variety of activities are completed, ranging from routine repairs to a full strip-down and refurbishment of the aircraft.All these and much more has resulted in high volume of British Airways reservations in the last few years.
